Honoring the bravery and sacrifice of British soldiers at Hill 235 during the Korean War
Established in 2014, the Battle of Imjin Memorial is a commemoration of the UK Armed Forces involved in the Korean War at Hill 235, the final and most tragic site of the Battle of Imjin River. The memorial is symbolised by a large stone ‘Glorious Glosters’ beret, marking the principle unit involved in the battle. The memorial is managed and funded by the Paju authorities. Paju is an administrative city that lies north of Seoul.
The site forms a centerpiece for the UK’s annual Remembrance/Commemoration annual programmes. However, as the number of UK Korean War veterans declines, work to support long term remembrance and education is deemed a fitting next step. Furthermore, this work aligns with wider ROK-UK collaboration efforts in support of marking 2023, the year that marks the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
